Concept art of a humble beginning for an indie strategy studio

Foundation

From one developer
to a strategy-first studio.

Guybrush Studios wasn’t built in a boardroom. It started with one question: why do so many mobile strategy games feel empty once you remove the store?

Founded in 2024. Built to bring PC-like depth to modern platforms without predatory monetization.

The origin story

It began as a solo project. I wanted to play something in the spirit of classic empire-growth games, but with more tactical depth and less grinding. What I kept finding were games that felt like products: designed around paywalls, automation, and retention loops.

Frustration with empty mobile strategy

Too many games optimized for retention loops instead of tactics, clarity, and mastery.

Love for PC classics

RTS fundamentals: readable rules, meaningful tradeoffs, and decisions that matter.

Respect for players

A belief that mobile players deserve depth and fairness, not paywalls and dopamine traps.

Grow and Conquer became the first proof: a strategy game built line by line to show that indie mobile strategy can be sustainable without exploiting players.

Late-night indie development: focused work on systems and balance

Where to go next

Foundation is the “why”. Mission is the “what”. Philosophy is the “how”.
